In the heart of downtown Asbury Park, where Cookman and Bangs avenues meet at the apex of the historic Steinbach's building, rests The Bonney Read. At heart, she's a classic chowder house that offers inspired, sustainably procured and locally-sourced seafood in a variety of ways. An open kitchen allows patrons to see all hands on deck, preparing above board dishes of fresh-caught fish and creamy chowders. A raw bar features a rotating selection of oysters and clams shucked-to-serve and offered raw, hot, or in the rough. A full bar emphasizes a curated selection of the finest rums and worldly wine varietals to complement traditional chowder house flavors which help diversify the dining options in Asbury Park -- a rapidly growing culinary and entertainment destination on the Jersey Shore. The establishment takes her name from a fusion of the two most infamous female pirates that ever lived, Anne Bonney and Mary Read. The two jointly captained the pirate sloop "Revenge" in Caribbean waters alongside "Calico Jack" Rackham. For years, the three made a successful living plundering smaller vessels.
